About Scouting

The Scout Section is for young people, usually aged between 10½ and 14 years. A young person can come in to the Troop at 10 and may stay until they are 15 years old. The Scout Troop is the third and final Section in the Scout Group.

Scouting is about being with friends, as part of a team, participating fully in the adventure and opportunities of life.

Balanced Programme

The philosophy underpinning the programme is that every Scout should participate in a Balanced Programme over a period of time - usually one year.

In Scouting, "programme" has the widest possible interpretation. Programme is not just all the activities that Scouts can take part in. It includes almost anything from archery to youth hostelling. It is also how we do those activities, known as the method, and why we do them, known as the purpose.

Crofton Scouts take 1st & 2nd Place in MetroRun

Scouts Metro Challenge 2006On Saturday 19th January Crofton Scouts entered two teams in the Scout MetroRun held by Pontefract & Castleford Scout District. The Metro Run is a simple idea, visit and pass as many train stations within the Metroline area (West Yorkshire). A total of 11 Scout teams took part and 4 Explorer Scout teams. With a total of 38 stations visited by one team and 37 stations by the other, Crofton Scouts took victory in 1st and 2nd place.

A lot of planning went into the event by our scouts, they had to study the timetable to allow them to call at as many station as possible between the hours of 9.00am and 4.00pm. Their planning and hard work paid off as they had a great day out, jumping on and off trains, and they had the added bonus of a great victory.
