The Cub Scouts is for boys and girls aged 8 - 10 ½ and
offers a wide range of activities. It’s a great way for them to build their
self-confidence and meet new friends.
The Cub Scout Pack usually meet indoors during the winter
months and for the rest of the year we try to get out & about in parks and
woodland.
Our Cub Scout meetings are planned to be exciting,
challenging & rewarding, often noisy and always FUN!
Our programme to the Easter break
includes working towards a musician and skills badge, first aid training, team
games, Easter crafts, church visit, and a trip to the West Yorkshire Astronomy
Society.
If you think your child might be
interested, or you are interested in helping us as a parent helper or section
assistant, please email us for details at the address below.

Crofton Beacon entry for January
Crofton Scout Troop returned on November 5th,
meeting at Calder Drift – the District campsite. The Scouts gathered wood.
Larger pieces were sawed into pieces by the Scouts before they assembled a
campfire. The evening was finished off with hot dogs and cake.
During the lead up to Remembrance Day Crofton Scouts, its
Leaders and a number of parents assisted the Rotary Club of Normanton with the
sale of poppies for the Royal British Legion. A member of the Rotary Club of
Normanton visited on the 12th of November to talk to Crofton Scouts
about their involvement with The Philippines Community Fund. Crofton Scouts
were shown a number of items including jewellery and bags made from ring pulls,
by children supported by The Philippines Community Fund.
A large proportion of Crofton Scouts, Cubs and Beavers
turned out for the Remembrance Day service at All Saints Church, and afterwards
paraded up to the War memorial.
Crofton Scouts spent an evening, in their patrols, building
“chairs” from staves and rope. Once completed a series of races were undertaken
with each patrol carrying a member of their patrol.
Crofton Scout Group held its Group Christmas party on the 12th
of December which included a visit from Santa. Crofton Scouts held their own
Christmas event at LazerZone at Xscape, before breaking up for the Christmas
holidays.
Scouting is open to
boys and girls aged 10 ½ to 14.

Crofton Beacon entry for October
After the long summer holidays Crofton Scouts began their
autumn programme with a ‘quiet’ evening playing games to ease everyone back in.
The following week took us out onto the streets of Crofton a scavenger hunt.
Wolves patrol triumphed with a completed list, closely followed by Lions
patrol. A trip around Crofton is never complete without ending up at the chip
shop, the most important item on the list to find.
The annual Wakefield District Water Weekend at Aldwark was
attended by ten of Crofton’s Scouts. Some had been several times, but for a
number it was their first visit, and hopefully not their last. The weather on
the Saturday was inclement to say the least, however all the Scouts who
attended kayaked, canoed and cycled despite it.
Crofton Scouts gained a few new Scouts moving up from Cubs
before the end of the summer term, so spent an evening completing a variety of
games and activities in order to help new and older Scouts to learn and think
about the Scout Law and Promise.
Most recently, the Scouts have been making pop bottle
rockets, which we have started testing out.
Thank you to all parents, family members and friends who
attended the Crofton Scout Group’s AGM on September 24th. Your
support is always appreciated, and we hope you enjoyed seeing a little of what
we do.
Scouting is open to
boys and girls aged 10 ½ to 14.

Crofton Beacon Entry (July issue)
Since Crofton Scouts’
last entry in April it has been a busy few months. After the Easter holidays we
had a trip to the Tesco Supermarket in Hemsworth, where the Scouts had a behind
the scenes tour of various areas within the store, as part of the Tesco ‘Farm
to Fork’ program. We sampled a variety of different fruits and cheeses, handled
some fresh fish and got to see how they make all the bread. Most of the group turned
out for the St. George’s Day parade in Wakefield.
In May we went to the
district camp site at Calder Drift and did some fire lighting. The Scouts then
got to do some backwards cooking on the fires. They also built some shelters
using poles, rope and sheeting at one meeting, and went orienteering at
Newmiller Dam another evening.
After half term in June
Crofton Scouts spent an evening geocaching in the fields around Warmfield. Although
neither group were as successful as they’d have liked at finding the geocaches,
a pleasant evening was had none the less. We spent a second evening at
Newmiller Dam where the Scouts had to navigate between several tasks, by themselves.
An evening was spent playing various ball games including rounders, and the
Scouts went cycling at Walton Country Park before finishing for the summer
holidays by having a joint meeting, involving a lot of water and getting wet,
with the Cubs.
A large group of
Crofton Scouts attended the County Climbing weekend at Bramhope, at the
beginning of June. We have also had a second trip on the district narrowboat
The Jubilee Venture.
Sadly we bid farewell
to some of the older Scouts who will be moving up to Explorers after the summer
holidays.
Crofton Scout Group
would like to thank everyone who helped during the process of us moving from
the old Scout hut. Your assistance has been much appreciated.
Scouting is open to
girls and boys aged 10 and a half to 14.

ST GEORGES DAY PARADE
St Georges Day Parade
The Wakefield District turned out in force for the annual St. George’s Day Parade and service last Sunday. There was a good turnout from all sections with an attendance of over 600 members of the Scout Association plus the family and friends who found that it was “standing room only” in the Cathedral.
During the service special awards were made to several members of the District. David Pontin received his 50 years’ service award; Nigel Le Page, District Chairman, received his 40 years’ service award and District Commissioner, Mal Ayers, received the Silver Acorn for his years of distinguished service to Scouting.
Our congratulations and thanks go to the award recipients and to the many Leaders of the District for their continued service to Scouting in Wakefield.
Thank you to all members of Crofton Scout Group who turned out to support their group for this important annual event.
Cubs go Canoeing
Cubs from Crofton took part in the Wakefield Scout Districts 'Cub Canoeing Day' at Pugneys Country Park. A great day of fun for all the Cubs, a big thank you to the organisers for this fab event. In total approximately 110 Cubs took part from the Wakefield district.
